Just done a tally of all the volunteers involved in our organisation - currently at 179 - a fantastic figure! - and that's excluding the 13 trustees who still insist that they are not "volunteers" in the same way - but i'm working on them!

Hmmm..Not sure how you get a "fantastic figure" re numbers of volunteers?
In so much as, one is fantastic ; if you only need one, and can only ethically support one.
As such, no numeric badge polishing here, just usual quality experience focus.
Although in a wider context I do take your point in respect of trustees, feeling they are not "volunteers". Sometimes in a
"Volunteers... let them eat cake sort of way"

i agree - one is fantastic - each and every one, however little or much time they give. You interpret me literally - but behind this are four newly evolving volunteer led projects - each of which i've spent the last twelve months recruiting and nuturing new volunteer managers who are in post, and are working hard to ensure that each and every single one of our volunteers, whatever the project, is well supported, trained and appreciated. I am merely the number counter who is pulling the stats together to justify to our funders that we are doing a good job, deserve to be here and that volunteer led initiatives provide a route into local community initiatives and difficulties that many others have failed at. :)
