Long time, no see
I keep meaning to come here more often. Shame on me for not doing so.
Just spent the day at a fabulous training all about social media and volunteering run by Attend and i-volunteer's own @JamieT. I've been thinking a lot recently about ways to enable and encourage volunteers to share more widely what they do. I really believe that happy, well-nurtured volunteers are an organisation's best advocates, and they are often the most qualified people to support other volunteers.
I know Diabetes UK volunteers are out there do amazing work all the time and I only get to hear a small slice of what they've done. I know this because there are many occassions where I've been out and about and I've run into our volunteers running an awareness stall, or fundraising, or just on a day out. And I had no idea it was happening.
I think social media can provide really effective platforms for us to have conversations with our volunteers and for them to talk to each other. It was really nice today to meet others thinking this way and find out I'm not completely crazy!
Hey Helen, gosh you should have said you were a member! Nice to meet you today and glad you found the session useful... as you'll see since your last visit we've changed a few things and hopefully made it a nicer and more useful place to be, for you and your volunteers so invite them on - you can use the invite function on the home page :o)
