Theatre in the Rough is a festival of new writing for the stage by young people aged between 13 and 25 from across Greater Merseyside.

Through a programme of workshops - including playwriting tuition, talks with industry professionals, and theatre trips - writers develop short plays for production as rehearsed readings at major venues across the region.

In 2011, the Theatre in the Rough Festival took place at Liverpool's Unity Theatre and Southport's Botanic Gardens Museum, engaging with over 20,000 people. In 2009, we produced 14 world premieres by 30 new writers at the Southport Arts Centre.

Our mission is to help cultivate the next generation of aspiring playwrights, and to prepare people with vital voices for the first steps in their career.

The Theatre in the Rough Festival is a Registered Charity, No. 1133246.
