Campaigns and Events Volunteer

00:00 Fri 24th Feb. - 00:00 Mon 26th March 2012
Cynthia St

Important: No more volunteers are currently required for this opportunity.

We have an exciting couple of months ahead. This year the government is seriously looking at regulating the lobbying industry to ensure that it is more open and transparent. Papers are being written, public consultations are happening and MPs need to feel the pressure for change from the public.

We now have a real chance to make some tangible changes. Unfortunately history shows us that we can not rely on the changes to happen without pressure. And while the government may have good intentions, it will be all too easy to go along with business as usual unless it senses the public feel strongly about this issue.

We are launching a nationwide speaker tour to highlight the problems of the lack of transparency in the lobbying industry. We are looking for a team of volunteers to make this a huge success. Its time sensitive we only have until May to get organised.

This is great opportunity to be a part of a big nationwide campaigns project with achievable end goals. It will involve a lot of admin; after all it is an office based role. But you will get a lot of freedom to help with the creative direction of the event whilst also getting insight into organising big high profile public meetings and helping to build our network of activists.

The core tasks we need with include building an invite list, research, sending out materials, drafting copy, publicity, liaising with MPs, councils, local activists and other supporting organisations. Plus whatever else organising a big public meeting will throw at us.

The role is based at Unlock Democracy’s Islington offices and travel expenses are paid (London Travel Zones 1-6 or equivalent).

To apply please send the following to Unlock Democracy’s Campaigns and Outreach Officer Emily at

  1. Your CV (please no more than 2 pages)
  2. A covering letter (again 2 pages maximum) on why you are applying for the role and why your knowledge and experience makes you the best candidate

In you cover letter please let us know how many days you would like to volunteer and what you would like to get out of the volunteering with Unlock Democracy.

The deadline to apply is 9am Monday 5th March 2012 with interviews beginning on the Wednesday 7th March. Alternative days can be arranged if appropriate.

Please note we may appoint before the deadline. We regret that we may not be able to respond to all applicants.
